I'm not sure what type of business I want to start. Can you help?
Here are 6 ideas to help you get started:
- Use your local knowledge
If you know all the ins and outs of your local school district, kids' sporting teams, activities, or other great local resources, you have built up valuable knowledge that could help another family. Think about how that knowledge could translate into a service for other parents who aren't in-the-know. For example, you could offer a one-hour consultation for parents who are trying to choose the right school for their kids.
- Use your specialized knowledge
Are you a mom of twins, or a child with special needs? Is your family vegetarian or gluten free? If you've built up a repertoire of specialized knowledge -- out of interest or out of necessity -- chances are there are other families who are just starting out who could benefit from all you've learned.
- Help moms with younger kids
Chances are you've learned a thing or two as your kids have gotten older. Think about what type of help you would have killed for when your kids were younger, and how you could create a service around it. For example, you could offer to just come over and hold a baby for an exhausted new mama, plan out an efficient nursery, or organize a great birthday party for toddlers.
- Ask your friends and family what you're best at
You might not even realize how skilled a gardener you are, or that your friends secretly envy your interior decorating skills. Your friends and family see all the talent in you that you take for granted!
- Go back to basics
Think about the skills you use every day. Maybe that's preparing nutritious meals for your family, safely driving kids from point A to point B, or helping with homework. Everything that needs doing day in and day out at your house needs doing in somebody else's house, too!
- Try the thing you're scared to start
Give yourself permission to consider doing the thing you secretly want to do, or have considered and rejected because it's too risky. Pepperlane is a place where you can dip a toe in the water and see what happens. The worst thing that can happen is you decide it's not for you, but you'll never know for sure until you try!
